What to do when you miss a call
You missed a call and the caller left no message. What to do in the next few minutes, how to reply, and how to stop missing the calls that matter.
The short answer
Check who called, then reply quickly: a short text often works better than calling back at a bad moment. The best fix is to make sure a missed call still gets an answer, so the next one does not depend on you being free.
In the next few minutes
- Look at the number. If it is saved, you know who it is; if not, search it before you call back.
- Check your voicemail and your messages: many callers leave a text or a voicemail instead.
- If it looks important, send a short text first: "Sorry I missed you. Is now a good time?" It lets the other person choose.
- If it is a number you do not know and there is no message, you do not owe a callback.
If you are a business or you work for yourself
A caller who reaches nobody often rings the next business on their list. Reply fast, and keep the reply short: who you are, that you saw the call, and when you can talk or what they can send you instead.
Stop depending on being free
- Let an agent answer for you. With fone.me, calls you miss can go to your agent, which answers, finds out what the person needs and sends you a summary with a transcript.
- Put your fone.me link where people reach you (your profile, your email signature): they can chat or call your agent from any browser.
- Connect WhatsApp so messages there get an answer too.
Questions
Should I always call back? No. Reply if the call looks like it matters or the caller is someone you know. A short text first is often easier for both of you.
Can an agent answer the calls I miss on my own number? Yes. With call forwarding turned on with your carrier, missed calls go to your fone.me agent, which answers and sends you the transcript. Your agent's own number comes with Premium.
Will the caller know it is an agent? Yes. It says it is your assistant, and that the call is transcribed.
